HSRP or High Security Registration Plate is made up of aluminium and has a chromium-based Hologram of Ashok Chakra in it. The primary use of HSRP is to ensure that the registration plate fixed on vehicles is genuine and not a duplicate one. HSRP contains a 10 digit permanent identification number printed on it. It becomes easier to identify stolen vehicles if a High Security Registration Plates is attached to a vehicle.
HSRP is mandatory in all the states including Punjab. You can book an HSRP in Punjab online from the comfort of your home. For vehicles registered in this state, HSRP Punjab online booking can be completed from the government authorised portal, http://www.punjabhsrp.in/. Punjab department has come up with this online portal to make it more convenient for people to book HSRP.
After opening the portal, you need to click on “Apply HSRP online”. Proceed further and enter details such as application type, vehicle no, chassis no, engine no, etc. Once done, select the fitment location for your HSRP. You need to upload the RC and KYC document online. Finally, the application fee has to be submitted through the payment gateway. It is a good idea to print the fee receipt for future reference.
In case you have lost the fee receipt, you can re-print it online from the same portal. After visiting the official website, press the “Reprint Invoice” tab. Next, enter either your registration number or invoice number and submit it post which you will be able to reprint the receipt.
The central government has not yet fixed the price for HSRP in India, the charges can vary from one state to another. You can check the price of HSRP for your state online. For booking and HSRP in Punjab, you need to pay ?400 for two-wheelers and about ?1,100 for four-wheelers. The Colour coded stickers are available at ?100 only.
As per the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and CMVR 1989 rules, HSRP are compulsory in all the states, hence you must purchase it as soon as possible to avoid any legal liabilities or the challans. New vehicles who have not yet registered for an HSRP cannot apply for vehicle’s registration at the RTO according to the new guidelines. Hence, you will not be issued a Registration Certificate if you do not have an HSRP fixed to your vehicle.
It can take about 4-5 working days to get an HSRP in Punjab after submitting the application online. For fitment of HSRP, the government has given this responsibility to only authorized dealers.
