Steel Bars and Their Characteristics:

steel is prevalent nowadays as a construction material, and steel bars are the most used steel product. There are beneficial characteristics of Rebars which are commonly known as steel bars. Steel gives strength to the concrete because steel has firm compression and concrete is weak in tension so, both the products complement each other and provide a robust, bearable, and solid base or structure to the building.

Steel bars are of many types, and each is used for different purposes. I know them because I am running a warehouse of steel where I purchased steel products from other big steel mills wholesale and then further sell them to the big construction companies and sell them to the government for big construction projects like bridges, roads, and many more. So, that's why I know about the steel products a little more, and now I will share them with you all about steel bars, their types, characteristics, and some about the company from where I purchased most of my steel bars.

There are mainly three types of steel bars which I will discuss below;

Mild steel bars

Mild steel bars come in a round shape and have a plain surface. The size of mild steel bars starts from 6mm to 50mm. The primary purpose of mild steel bars is to dowel at expansion joints and other joints like roads and runways. It is very easily bent. But then it is not used to construct bridges and high buildings because it has not had enough strong bond with concrete compared to the other bars.

There are two types of grades found in mild steel bars one grade 40, and the other is grade 60.

Deformed steel bars

As deformed have a rough surface, it is more used in construction projects like bridges and buildings. There is o problem of slippage in this, like mild steel bars, because of the round and plain surface of the mild rebars. So deformed bars provide a strong bonding with the concrete, which helps bind them together to get higher strength. There are two types of deformed bars:

TMT

TMT stands for thermos mechanically treated deformed steel bars. It is recently manufactured, and it is many properties like strength, flexibility, welding ability, bending ability, and many more.

Some common characteristics

It has better ductility and malleability has strong strength and bonding ability. It provides earthquake, corrosion, and high thermal resistance. The most important one is economically safe in use.

HSD

HSD stands for high-strength steel bars. It is cold twisted bars with a lot of deformation on the surface. It is mainly used for reinforcement purposes in construction. High-strength steel bars start from 4mm to 50mm in diameter.

Some common characteristics

High Strength Deformed steel bars have low carbon values, increasing their strength and having excellent bonding with concrete. It can be used in a wide range of construction projects. It has excellent welding capability, and last, but not least, due to its lightweight and strong strength, it is used in compression and tensile reinforcement.
