Every parent faces the dilemma of choosing the right curriculum for their children. It is one of the most important decisions to make as a parent because curriculum forms a foundation upon which the students can build their dreams. Here are the differences between CBSE and ICSE curriculum. It is necessary to make no rush and look at all the pros and cons before deciding whether to take admission in an ICSE or CBSE School in Ahmedabad.
CBSE or the Central Board of Secondary Education is a board in charge of promoting education for public and private schools, that come under the Union Government of India while a national level private board of Education in India that was established in 1958, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), normally is in charge of conducting the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. The CBSE curriculum is generally known to be easier in comparison to ICSE. It has a more structured and scientific approach to its coursework whereas the ICSE syllabus with diverse subject combinations is more detailed and comprehensive that matches international standards. CBSE and ICSE follow a particular prescribed mode of teaching that has been continuously evolving since the past ten years.
ICSE has an outstanding teaching model that consists of a penetrative study of subjects and has carved a niche for itself in teaching English language and literature while the CBSE syllabus focuses on academic science and math and has prescribed textbooks to refer, study and memorize. ICSE provides more options for learning like courses in environmental science and interior design lacking in CBSE.
The medium of instruction is either English or Hindi with respect to CBSE whereas ICSE provides for only English. Students in CBSE get results as grades. The ICSE gives two result sheets, one showing grades obtained by the student and the other showing his/her marks.
CBSE syllabus lays more emphasis on Maths and Science. The syllabus is more tuned to attempt competitive exams like JEE and NEET. Secondary subjects are not compulsory in CBSE which enables the students to focus more on key subjects. CBSE is a widely recognized board in India. The syllabus that the ICSE board follows, emphasises more on the study of the English language. Students who wish to pursue careers in arts or linguistics will find the curriculum followed by ICSE to be more assisting and is easy to attempt exams like IELTS or TOEFL. The ICSE certificate is widely accepted around the world for colleges and universities. It has a variety of subjects to be selected for study and thus has more flexibility.
The CBSE has been recognized by the Indian government whereas it is not so for ICSE. While a large number of top schools across India are affiliated to the CBSE board, the ICSE board in comparison has fewer schools affiliated to it. Therefore, it is very helpful for the parents who constantly get transferred. Another pro that comes with the CBSE board is that it allows both regular and private candidates to sit for the examination. On the contrary, the ICSE board allows only students studying in its affiliated schools to take the final examination.
Whatever may be your choice, each of these boards have some of the top schools in Ahmedabad affiliate to them.
