IELTS exam is not as easy as many students think as it requires from you to prepare for a proper time and do more efforts particularly if you need to get a high score in the exam. 


A 3 to 4 months is a good time to prepare for ielts exam and get a good score for the majority of students who speak English as a second language. However, the more time you have for preparation of exam, the better it is for you. Preparation for 3 months is favorable for many candidates.


6 tips to prepare for IELTS exam in a short time

  1. Improve your main Skills

You have to put all of your focus on enhancing and improving the following three skills: 

  1. General English Language
  2. Exam skills and time management
  3. General English ability


  1. Study English Segments

To improve your general English language, you have to cover and study the following topics:

  1. Pronunciation and fluency for IELTS speaking exam
  2. New vocabulary for IELTS
  3. Grammar
  4. Listening skills
  5. Reading skills


  1. Study Grammar rules

Errors in grammar are frequent and most easily made by many IELTS candidates.

You can avoid major grammatical errors with practice, but you have to find a trained English teacher, especially an IELTS instructor, to assess your writing and speaking and to correct any grammatical errors.

Try to identify the errors that happened frequently and study the grammatical rule from an English book as grammar for IELTS book.


  1. Practice daily and regularly

Make all the environment around you in English and surround yourself with English. Listen to English podcasts, news or radio in English, watch English TV series, read English books or newspapers.


Find an IELTS buddy to speak with in a daily basis, and try to do previous speaking exams IELTS cue cards, part 1 and part 3 follow up questions.

In addition, write in English wherever and when possible you get a chance to. 


Try to find some interesting ways to practice as English and IELTS games to learn with fun.

Jus remember, English is a life skill, the more your practice, the better you get at it and a higher score you will get in IELTS exam.

You have to solve all different kinds of IELTS test questions for each section, Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing task 1 and task 2 either for Academic or General training IELTS.

Furthermore, you should learn the different ways and strategies to answer them appropriately.

For instance, the writing section of IELTS general training is divided into two parts; the writing task 1 asks you to write a letter (formal or informal). If you  studied previous letters and answers well, it will be easier for you to prepare.
