Six Shows to Watch if You’re Obsessed With Friends

Friends was one of the most popular TV shows ever, and it's pretty much required watching if you're obsessed with Friends like we are. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't also be checking out other great sitcoms that will make you feel like you're hanging out with the gang again in no time. Check out our list of six shows to watch if you're obsessed with Friends!

1) Seinfeld

There are some obvious similarities between Seinfeld and Friends. The former was born in 1989, six years after Friends, but both shows are about groups of friends who spend their days hanging out in New York City. But if you’re looking for more than just a carbon copy of your favorite sitcom, check out Seinfeld on Hulu. It’s one of my all-time favorites—and I can definitely see how it inspired Friends.

2) Cheers

Everyone’s favorite bar in Boston is where Sam Malone (Ted Danson) works as a bartender after he realizes he can make more money there than at his day job. At Cheers, everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came. There are minor arguments, but one of the most memorable was in season three when Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) tells Sam she likes him, but doesn't like that he's married. The two date briefly before breaking up over Diane's job in Venezuela. By far, one of my favorite episodes is Woody Gets an Election when Woody Boyd (Woody Harrelson) asks Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman) to marry him - only for her family to find out about their affair later.

3) How I Met Your Mother

When How I Met Your Mother first aired in 2005, it was almost immediately compared to NBC’s The Office, which had just finished its first season. Both shows featured a mockumentary-style filming style and centered on small, dysfunctional workplaces. While it didn’t quite reach The Office’s popularity levels (except among kids who really should have been studying), How I Met Your Mother managed five successful seasons and has remained an iconic series for anyone born in the late 80s or early 90s. Here are some other TV shows like How I Met Your Mother that every fan should watch

4) Curb Your Enthusiasm

Whether you’re super into Seinfeld or never got over The Office, there are few shows more beloved by millennials than Curb Your Enthusiasm. Before that show started, most people didn’t know what a Larry David was, but after it became one of HBO’s biggest hits ever, everyone knew exactly who he was—and he couldn’t have been prouder. A major part of his appeal is his unwillingness to censor himself and utter disregard for social norms—qualities that only make him funnier. If you love Curb, check out these six shows about utterly eccentric characters who don't let society dictate their behavior.

5) The Office

This sitcom starred Steve Carell as a relatable and awkward boss, Michael Scott. The show is based on a branch of Dunder Mifflin, an actual paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Although it wasn't exactly like working in an office environment, some scenes made you laugh and put you right back into those dreaded Monday morning meetings at your own job. Want to relive those memories? Here are six shows about friends and coworkers.

6) 30 Rock

30 Rock is a satirical take on life in NBC’s The Office. The show follows Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, who struggles to manage her staff of misfits while attempting to boost ratings for her low-rated sketch comedy show, TGS. The cast is full of oddball characters, including Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy, head of network NBC and Tracy Morgan as Tracy Jordan. If you liked Friends because of its drama and laughs between best friends, 30 Rock is a good choice because it has all that plus colorful characters that are fun just watching—not necessarily caring about what happens next.

Conclusion

Of course, you don’t have to watch TV shows just because you’re a fan of a certain show. In fact, if there are too many comparisons between your favorite series and its successor, it might not be worth your time. But these six shows have enough wacky characters and funny one-liners that they won’t seem derivative—they’ll actually be fun for fans of Seinfeld.???????
