One of the main reasons people struggle to improve their health is that there is no immediate satisfaction. While eating a healthy diet and exercising will make you feel good in the future in this time of worry or excitement, a chocolate donut is much more enjoyable than an interval elliptical session.
So how can we get and keep motivation for a long time? Here are some things to try:
1. List the reasons why good health is important to you
This could be life before your daughter's wedding, a marathon, feeling good in a bathing suit, or preventing a heart attack like your mother. Whatever the reason, write it down and make the list visible as a constant reminder.
2. Hang an item of clothing that currently fits you
Or maybe it has become a little more comfortable in a visible place. Try to make it a piece of clothing that makes you feel really good when you wear it. Hang it on the front of your closet or on a hanger visible in your room, so you will always be motivated by the fact that you feel good wearing the garment.
3. Remove all temptations
There will often be times when you die from a piece of chocolate or are so hungry that you want to drink a bag of chips. If you only have healthy options in your home, you may not be able to control yourself, but at least you've eaten too many almonds and carrots, not a box of Oreos.
4. Wear the right clothes
Sometimes we all feel a little bloated and physically out of our reach. Most of us turn to baggy pants and sweatshirts to feel comfortable. You're much more likely to have comfort food and less guilt for ingesting if your clothes float on you. If you wear a tight sweater and pants, you are more likely to choose the right food choices, knowing how uncomfortable you will feel if you do.
5. Stay away from social media
Our media use fast diets, diet pills, and magic drinks to keep you fit and feel good. Most of these are schemes and are only meant to generate income, not improve your health. Keep a clear mindset and aware that your hard work will pay off and understand that the ad you saw to get six packs in 3 weeks is Bologna.
6. Stay away from the scale
The scale can be very deceiving when it comes to tracking progress. You may have had a lot of sodium the day before, be slightly dehydrated, or haven't had a bowel movement yet. Weighing yourself on a scale every day is detrimental to progress. For example, yesterday you stuck to calories and took a Boot Camp class. You decide to weigh yourself and you have gained 2 lbs. You feel hopeless and decide to stop by Dunkin Donuts for a Boston cream. You didn't realize your salmon had a lot of sodium the day before and you just saved up some water. Now you have ruined your progress. I recommend that everyone only weigh themselves once a week, Friday or Saturday morning, so you can stay focused throughout the week.
7. Take snapshots of your progress
We look at and judge ourselves physically every day. It is difficult to see the changes visually. While taking a picture of yourself when you're feeling worse isn't exactly fun, taking a picture a month after you've lost 6 pounds and seeing how you've drastically changed is very motivating to continue your hard work.
8. Make sure you have a support system
Find a friend who comes to visit you at the gym and you feel compelled to go. Join the My Fitness Pal diary app with friends and ask them to check your food every day. Ask your husband or wife to remove the scales and hide them in the house so you don't get bogged down on quantity. Find as many ways as you can and whoever you can hold accountable for your health and wellness decisions so you don't lose sight of your goals.
9. Cheating
Wellbeing and well-being are a lifelong battle. Under no circumstances will you eat a bacon cheeseburger again. So set aside a specific occasion, time, or meal to indulge in whatever you want. This trick will not only speed up your metabolism, but you will no longer feel left out and allow you to continue your progress.
10. Spend money on yourself
It has become common to go out for dinner with friends on Saturday nights and spend $ 150 on entertainment. So why do most people find it hard to afford the $ 150 for 10 classes at Hot Pilates Studios, especially if they really enjoy exercising? Why do we spend hundreds of dollars on good work clothes but can't afford new running shoes? Don't choose the cheapest subscription, the cheapest coach, or settle for sports equipment clothing. Spend some money on yourself and make your well-being more enjoyable.
