The purpose of a cleaning product is to clean a surface, so we are quite happy when our floors, counter tops and furniture looks squeaky clean after the first swipe. However even though you get results from the products there is a good chance that they all contain chemicals and ingredients that are not ideal for us. Certain products may contain toxic chemicals that can give rise to allergies, skin irritation and even affect breathing, especially if it something that is sprayed.

Also, while these may not be ideal for humans, they can be worse on our pets. Cats and dogs have sensitive skin and fur that can be irritated by the use of floor detergents. It is even recommended to only use these products sparingly rather than often. So, with the many brands and different options available how exactly do you choose the right detergent.

Go natural

Did you know that many of the items in your kitchen right now are great substitutes for cleaning products? Baking soda for example is one of the best alternatives and can be used to clean just about anything. It works well as a whitener and stain remover too. Similarly, Lemon juice is best known to clean lightening stains, while vinegar is a good glass clean. Due to its ingredients, it works as a multipurpose cleaner and is always available in your kitchen too.

Watch out for key words

When you read the labels of these products watch out for any key words mentioned. Ammonia, bleach, petroleum solvents or phosphates are all chemicals that are used to manufactures cleaning products. However, while they are mandatory the quantity of it can tell a lot. There are the average quantities that can be added into the product but if it is over a certain amount this can be a hint that there could be chance this product could be harmful in the long run.

At first you may not be able to identify the difference but as you keep reading the labels you will be able to tell which product seems better than the others. Or you can skip the labels and opt for environmentally friendly cleaning products instead. These don’t contain the chemicals or if they do in very small quantities. And the best part is they do the job too.

Evaluate just how much product you need

Sometimes cleaning can become an obsession, it might be a tedious task for some while it is enriching for others. There is great satisfaction that comes from cleaning a room that has been a mess but just how often do you need to?

A small home that has limited space and only one or two occupying it will need less cleaning that a big house with kids and dogs. So, it is important to prioritize your cleaning. Don’t overload your house with chemicals but instead use if just one or twice a week maximum and then only if needed too. ???????
