Why Oregano Oil Is All the Rage?

Many people are familiar with the many health advantages of wild oregano oil Australia, which is available in drops for internal use, essential oil for topical use, capsules, and blended with herbal mixes. Carvacol, thymol, pinene, limonene, ocimene, and caryophyllene are the primary naturally occurring essential oils found in oregano.

These elements have certain properties which make the oil of wild oregano popular for a number of health-related concerns. Let’s have a look -

Antibiotic Activity

Research has indicated that the antimicrobial properties of oregano, particularly carbocol and thymol, may be effective against up to 41 types of the foodborne bacterium Listeria. Oregano is an excellent antiseptic that can be used in cleaning products, disinfectant sprays, hand washes, topical and internal use, or vaporised for airborne germs. A team of UK researchers discovered that oregano has also been shown to kill the superbug MRSA and was shown to be more effective than 18 different types of antibiotics. The testing revealed that MRSA is killed by oregano essential oil at a dilution of 1 to 1,000. Additionally, research demonstrates that the oil kills MRSA both as a liquid and as a vapour while maintaining its antibacterial effect.

Upper Respiratory Infections

In medicine, oregano is used to treat sinusitis, earaches, croup, and respiratory tract infections like the flu and the common cold. Asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory illnesses are also treated with it. Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae, which can lead to respiratory infections, have been proven to be inhibited by oregano.

Intestinal Infections

Due to its powerful natural anti-microbial properties, oregano is also used to treat intestinal infections and parasites. Additionally, studies conducted in Italy discovered that oregano essential oils are effective against several yeasts, including Candida. After 6 weeks of treatment on 600 mg of emulsified oil of oregano daily, a small study showed that oregano was capable of killing enteric parasites such Blastocystis hominis, Entamoeba hartmanni, and Endolimax nana.

These findings make it simple to draw the conclusion that using oregano to treat any form of gastrointestinal infection may have a number of positive effects in addition to eliminating any unwanted visitors.

Anti-Inflammatory

Thymol and rosmarinic acid, two phytonutrients found in oregano, have been demonstrated to act as powerful antioxidants that can help stop free radical cellular damage throughout the body. The active component in oregano known as beta-caryophyllin (E-BCP), which has demonstrated potential against osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis, was discovered by researchers at Zurich University in Switzerland and Bonn University in Germany.

Protection from Cancer

According to researchers from the United Arab Emirates University, oregano promotes cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, which causes breast cancer cells to self-destruct. It was referred to as a promising chemopreventive and therapeutic option that could control the progression and spread of breast cancer. In colon cancer cells, oregano extract has been demonstrated to cause growth arrest and cell death in a dose- and time-dependent manner. More research is required to determine oregano's potential therapeutic benefits in the battle against cancer. Several studies have suggested that it may have the ability to delay the onset of some types of cancer and even partially reverse the condition.

Improve Skin Health

Due to the potent phytocompounds like carvacol's antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, oregano oil can be applied topically for the treatment of acne, bites, skin infections, athletes' foot, soft - tissue infections such as nail and gum infections, cold sores, canker sores, jock itch, gum infections, ringworm, warts, and as an insect repellent.
