The Battlefield video game series is a military strategy video game franchise developed by the EA Digital Illusions CE studio, which began in 1997.


The Battlefield games are classified as shooters but are also referred to as first-person shooters, as their main mechanic is a 1st-person shooter perspective and view of the battlefield. A common trait is the use of 3D modeling for units and maps.


Battlefield games are set in various modern conflicts, featuring vehicular combat and a wide variety of weapons and vehicles. The games, especially those after Battlefield 3, are also highly realistic and include features such as artificial intelligence and environmental hazards.


The series has sold more than 90 million units and has been the subject of two Guinness World Records. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was the best-selling first-person shooter of 2008 and was the highest-grossing military shooter of 2009. Battlefield 3, published in October 2011, was the highest-grossing first-person shooter of 2012.


Gameplay


Battlefield gameplay is generally divided into three categories: land warfare, air warfare, and naval warfare. Each category contains multiple maps and subcategories. Some fans want to play Battlefield games but they don't have a good PC or laptop to play this so they can use the F95zone gaming platform to play their favorite battlefield games.


Battlefield (BF)


The games are first-person shooters, though they can be viewed from behind a soldier's helmet. The default view is the perspective of the soldier, but with the ability to switch between a third-person "onsight" viewpoint and a first-person view.


The soldiers themselves do not have models, but rather are represented by a texture on the world map. The perspective of a view from the soldiers' helmet (which is sometimes referred to as the soldier view) is used to determine what is in view and what is occluded, such as what happens on the other side of hills or buildings.


Soldiers generally cannot see themselves on the other side of walls or buildings and soldiers cannot look through walls, nor can the player.


The vehicles in the series are modeled using the CryEngine, a game engine developed by Eidos Montréal. The player views the vehicles as they would be seen by an individual, usually from behind.


This includes the ability to view the individual components of the vehicles, as well as to view through their glass. The player can also access any component of the vehicle that is visible from the outside.


Additionally, the vehicles are rigged to handle collisions realistically, meaning that they will bounce off the ground if they have the appropriate collision radius.


Some vehicles, such as airplanes, have wings that stretch from front to back, allowing them to fly even when they have a steep dive.


When an aircraft is landing on a runway, the ground it is coming in to land on will not be blocked in the same way as if it were coming in from the side, allowing the plane to land on a slope or with less force in the case of a long drop.


If the wings of a vehicle have collision geometry (either as a straight surface or one with a small radius), then they will collide with obstacles, such as other vehicles, or they will strike a runway surface and slow the vehicle.


There are no destructible surfaces in the game. Damage is only depicted when the vehicle comes to a stop, such as hitting a guardrail.


A wide array of vehicles are featured in the game, both civilian and military, some of which have been developed as official content for Battlefield and Battlefield: Bad Company, as well as for Battlefield: 1943. Additionally, the game includes other vehicles, including those that have been modified by the player to perform new functions.


Vehicle features and classes


While the vehicles in the game all work and perform identically, there are several different game aspects and features based on the class of the vehicle. The types are described in order of their appearance and range of functionality, starting with "basic" vehicles and proceeding to the most advanced ones.


Base vehicles


All vehicles are considered basic, with the only exception of transport aircraft, although they do have the option of carrying passengers. All basic vehicles have a single-engine that produces one fixed drive force.


Hovercraft (C class)


Hovercraft, the C-Class Vehicles, are amphibious vehicles that work both on land and in the water.


Boat (P class)


The boats have been replaced by smaller helicopters that use the same technology. In general, boats are much more maneuverable than the boats they replaced but are much less capable than hovercraft.


Helicopter (V class)


Helicopters are the second class of vehicles, after the boats, and share all the characteristics of those vehicles, but are superior in almost all cases. Their rotors are capable of vertical take-off and landings, the maximum weight for land operations is increased to and they have the highest speed of all vehicles in the game.


Aircraft (D class)


Aircraft use a special class of aircraft called D-Class Aircraft. They have three engines and one retractable engine but are extremely rare. The only example of a D-Class aircraft is the X-42 Osprey, which is used to rescue soldiers stranded on land.


Special vehicles


Vehicles in the game are grouped into two classes, "regular" vehicles, and "special" vehicles. The differences between the classes are the maximum speed for both land and water operations, and the maximum mass. As such, special vehicles are limited to the use of vehicles in higher classes.


Ammunition


As with many RPGs, there are two distinct types of ammunition used in the game. The ammunition for the different weapons has differing properties based on their caliber, bullet weight, and other factors. This has been done in order to not force players to reload a specific amount of ammunition at every mission.


Cannon


All cannons in the game have a different caliber to their bullet weight. A specific weapon has a caliber-bullet-weight ratio that is most effective against other weapons with the same caliber.


This is done in order to force players to make effective use of artillery weapons by making it difficult to damage targets with the wrong caliber.


Explosive weapons


Explosive weapons in the game have different explosive charges available for them to fire. A different explosive charge is created for every caliber. Explosive weapons fire the charges by pulling a handle.


Players can choose their order of operation between the explosive weapon, and the other weapon of the same caliber. This is done to prevent players from only using explosive weapons and ignoring the other weapon.


Vehicles in the game can carry four different explosive weapons. These weapons are stored in the back of the vehicle. If a vehicle is damaged, only one of the explosive weapons can be used per mission.
