BHUBANESWAR: The Copenhagen-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) on Sunday awarded Puri's Golden Beach with the prestigious Blue Flag certification, along with seven other beaches in the country. Golden Beach, Puri is the first beach in the state to get this tag. The state government trusts that the Blue Flag accreditation will give a critical lift to the travel industry in the state.

The center, under its ambitious Beech Environment and Aesthetic Management System (BEAMS) program, last month proposed to name eight beaches for the Blue Flag tag to the international jury of the FEE.
