For some time now, Dubai has established itself as one of the most important tourist destinations in the Middle East. One of the main reasons is the connection that the Emirates airline offers with various countries in Asia, which makes us consider the possibility of spending a couple of days (on average) in this city.
Below we are going to provide you with all the necessary information so that you can plan your stay in Dubai: visa, airport, means of transport with maps and many tips.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is located in the Al Garhoud district, 4km southeast of the city.
Most of the air traffic is generated by Emirates , the most important airline in the Middle East and one of the best in the world. On the other hand, the Dubai airport is all luxury and modernity, a small appetizer of what awaits the traveler when visiting the city.
T1 : Airlines operating long-haul flights other than Emirates (Aeroflot, Air France, Air China, Air Blue, etc.)
T2 : Intended for regional and low-cost flights (Air India Express, Alexandria Airlines, Caspian Airlines, etc).
T3 : This terminal produces the arrival and departure of all Emirates flights.
To make the transfer between the different terminals there are free means of transport (bus, shuttle, etc.). In the case of having a connecting flight and the traveler has little time to get to the boarding gate, Dubai airport offers the possibility of being accompanied by an operator.
To get to the center of Dubai you can use the subway, taxi, bus or car. We use the metro, the stop is inside the airport.
The currency of Dubai is the dirham (Dh, AED). The change is € 1 = AED 4.16 . We change money at the same airport. If you plan to stay several days and therefore spend a significant amount of money, it may pay you to find another place that has a lower commission.
Many travelers choose to negotiate the price with a taxi driver and visit the most emblematic places of interest, since the prices are not very high. In this case you will have to take the account the traffic.
If you have to stay for a day or more, then car rental will be the best option for you. You don't have to wait for the metro or taxi, whenever you have to go outside. You can rent a normal budget car for 50-100 AED, or if you want to rent luxury car Dubai, it can cost upto 700-3000 AED.
Here's the cheapest way to get around Dubai, but not the fastest.
You cannot pay in cash, you have to buy the Nol card at any metro station or distributor.
The cost varies depending on the distance traveled and the type of card purchased.
The bus network has 119 lines and they operate from 6 to 12 at night (with some exceptions).
We are facing one of the most advanced meters in the world. Because it has even sections for passengers of the Gold class. The air conditioning is powerful, so much so that sometimes one needs to put on a jacket. The subway does not have a driver , so it is possible to get into the starting car and observe the route in the front row.
Red Line : it runs through the city from North to South, and does so from the outside (except for a section) so that all the buildings in the city can be seen.
Green Line: connects the red line with important points in Deira and Bur Dubai. Transfers take place at Union Square and Bur Juman stations.
Using the metro is very simple since the names of the stations correspond to the closest place of interest : Burj Kahlifa / Dubai Mall (stop 25) , Mall of the Emirates (stop 32), Dubai Marina (stop 36), etc. The hours are, from Saturday to Wednesday from 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
What we liked the least was the long corridors that you have to walk from the subway to the entrance of the shopping center or tourist destination. Although they have a conveyor belt like in airports, they are a bit heavy, but hey, it's better than walking down the street at 45 degrees.
? NOL CARD . It is a rechargeable card with which you can travel in the different means of transport in Dubai (more information on the NOL Card website ). As we have said before, the route is calculated based on the distance to travel.
There are four types of NOL card, but for tourists we recommend using these two :
Red Card: The cost of the card is 2AED and can be recharged for a maximum of 10 trips. It is the most suitable for very short stays (one day).
Silver Card : The card costs AED 25 and includes AED 19 of credit.
From our point of view, the best areas to stay in Dubai are: Marina Dubai and Downtown (next to the Burj Khalifa), but as you would imagine the prices of hotels are high.
In Marina you will find one of the most emblematic hotels in Dubai, the Atlantis, ThePalm . It is also a good option to go with children since it has a lot of activities for the little ones in the house, such as a water park. Another thing is the price ... but don't worry, nearby is the Hotel Ibis Al Barsha , we already know that an Ibis never fails.
Downtown there is a hotel with many swimming pools located 10 minutes walk from the Dubai Mall. It is called Roda AlMurooj Hotel.
The hotel chosen was the Rose Rayhaan By Rotana, located in a beautiful skyscraper that has 333 meters and 72 floors, in fact it is one of the tallest hotels in the world
