Day 1: Land at Paro Airport

On a clear day, the trip from Druk Airlines to Bhutan is one of the most stunning in the Himalayas. Every flight is a fascinating experience, whether it's over the Himalayas from Kathmandu or over the hills of Kolkata. Day 2: Dive into Thimphu Town

Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan's contemporary capital city, an hour and a half drive from Paro. Take a stopover at Chuzom, the confluence of the Paro and Thimphu rivers. Visit the oldest Simtokha Dzong, which is home to a Buddhist studies institution. On your vacation to Bhutan, visit the spectacular monument Chorten and Tashichodzong, a beautiful medieval stronghold. Finally, pay a visit to the Textile and Folk Heritage Museum and the Handicraft Emporium. Spend the night in a Hotel In Thimphu.


Day 3: Traverse Punakha from Thimphu City

Thimphu city sightseeing, including visiting the National Library, the Painting School, and the Traditional Medicine Institute. After lunch:

  1. Drive to Punakha, Bhutan's old capital, through Dochula pass, which offers an enchanting view of 108 Chortens.
  2. Check into the hotel and take a rest when you arrive.
  3. Take a tour of the 17th-century castle Punakha Dzong and then Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten in the evening.
  4. Spend a night in a Punakha hotel.


Day 4: Punakha – Wangduephodrang – Gangtey (70 km, 3 hours)

Take a trip to Gangtey through Wangduephodrang after breakfast. Visit the beautiful Wangdue Dzong and the town's local market. Gangtey runs through a lush forest of oak and rhododendron trees (Phobjikha). Take a stroll around Gangtey hamlet and visit Gangtey Gompa, which is thought to be the only Nyingmapa monastery in the world. Spend the night at a campground or in a guest house.


Day 5: Gangtey towards Trongsa (120 km, four and half hours)

Spend the morning exploring the Phobjikha Valley, which is known for its black-necked cranes. These cranes come here to escape the severe winter from the Central Asian plains. After lunch, drive to Trongsa across the 3,300-meter-high Pelela Pass and spend the evening at the market. Stay in a hotel in Trongsa for the night.

Day 6: Trongsa – Bumthang (68 km, 3 hours)

Visit Trongsa Dzong, Bhutan's largest architectural masterpiece, and Ta Dzong, built by 3rd Druk Desi to protect the dzong and its environs. Continue to Bumthang, the heartland of a sacred site, after lunch. Spend the night in a hotel after dinner.

Day 7: Bumthang - The Heartland of Religious Places


Kurji Lhakhang


Bumthang refers to the four valleys of Chumey, Choekhor, Tang, and Ura, located between 2600 and 4000 meters above sea level. It is home to numerous notable Buddhist temples and monasteries. Visit Tamshing Lhakhang, a Buddhist temple that has a rich trove of religious paintings. Then go on to Jakar Dzong, where all the administrative work is completed. Visit Kurje Lhakhang, one of Bumthang's holy and sacred locations, after lunch. Next, include a visit to Jambay Lhakhang in your Bhutan travel itinerary, an old temple constructed during the country's Buddhist expansion. In Bumthang, spend the night at the lodge.


Day 8: Excursion from Bumthang (west) to Mongar (East)-198 km, 7 hours

The journey continues eastward in difficult terrain. The trip takes roughly 7 hours to soak in the breathtaking scenery. Before crossing the Thrumshingla Pass (4,000 meters), the kingdom's highest road, drive through the settlement of Ura in Bumthang. To visit the waterfalls along the way, travel to Sengor. On Kurichu, the drop to 700 meters comes to a stop at the bridge. To reach Mongar:

  1. Retrace your steps through the pine forest, cornfields, and eastern villages.
  2. Visit Mongar Dzong, a brand-new structure that maintains traditional architectural traditions.
  3. In Mongar, check into a hotel


Day 9: Mongar-Trashigang

This 96-kilometer trek takes three hours to complete, traveling via Korila Pass, marked by a stunning Chorten and a stone wall that runs through a thick grove of ferns. The route quickly descends through cornfields and banana plantations to reach Yadi's famed zigzag (new settlement). To get to Dametsi, follow the Gamri River. This is the location of Cheten Zangmo's most important monastery in the eastern portion; a temple alighted on top of a steep hill. Spend the night in a hotel in Trashigang.


Day 10: Trashigang (Excursion to Trashiyangtse)

Visit Trashiyangtse to see the Gom Kora temple, situated on a small alluvial plateau overlooking the river. Guru Rinpoche defeated a demon right here. Then proceed to Dosum Village, where you may watch busy ladies making traditional Bhutanese items and visit a 15th-century chain bridge. At an elevation of 1850 meters, Trashiyangtse Dzong is a must-see. Because it is located on one of the major routes from the west to central Bhutan, Trashiyangtse was a significant center. Both the art school and the well-known Chorten Cora are new and close by. In the evening, return to Trashigang and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 11: Return to Bumthang (289 km, 10 hours)

Return to Bumthang after the morning meal, and lunch will be served along the route. In Bumthang, spend the night in a hotel.


Day 12: Bumthang-Punakha (205 km, 6 hours)

Wangduephodrang Dzong


Begin your journey to Punakha after strolling through Bumthang market, where lunch will be served on the way to one of Trongsa's most famous restaurants. After a brief stop at Wangduephodrang for tea and snacks, continue to Punakha. Spend the night there. After that, check into the hotel when you arrive in Thimphu. Spend the night.


Day 13: Punakha-Paro (125km, 4 and ½ hours)


In the mornings, Punakha is a great place to relax and enjoy leisure time. Drive to Paro after lunch and spend the night there.


Day 14: Departure from Paro
