Inspiring Personalities: 7 People Who Inspired Me This Year

There are so many reasons why people can inspire. Some people have a talent or skill that is out of this world, some have an attitude that is contagious, and others have a story that simply makes us believe. Regardless of what inspires you, there are many inspirations in the world. Here are five people who have inspired me this year for various reasons.

1. Martin Luther King Jr.

I was a child when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. This was the first time that I really paid attention to politics. The news has been on every day since, and it hasn't stopped. Dr. King made me realize that one person can make a difference, no matter the situation. His speeches changed my life. His speeches have been a constant reminder for me to always do what's right.

2. Michelle Obama

For me, Michelle Obama is the epitome of what it means to be a real leader. She knows how to handle herself in any environment, but also has the ability to connect with anyone who comes across her. Throughout her campaign, she had one thing consistently pop up in my feed: her shirt. In a sea of more conservative shirts, hers had sayings like "When they go low, we go high" or "When they go low, we go black" and it just looked like she was dressed for a rally. Of course, the foundation of that shirt was simple—she was supporting then-candidate Barack Obama at a campaign event—but it just made her look so fun and brave. She always looked comfortable in any situation, and if she was uncomfortable, she didn't show it.

3. Malala Yousafzai

I love the people who love reading and wanting to be better people. In 2015, Malala Yousafzai gave a speech about girls’ education in Pakistan. She inspired me to never give up on my dreams or to stand up for something I believe in, no matter the backlash. I am not always the best at standing up for what I believe in, but I want to be that kind of person.

4. Gordon Parks

If you are a photography fan, this name will be familiar to you. Parks was a 20-year-old photographer who captured the African American communities of New York City in the 40s. The image of a man walking with the style of a starfighter pilot is unforgettable. He was a political activist who stood up for black people and sent a message to America.

Parks was honoured with a Pulitzer Prize, and, a few years ago, he was posthumously awarded a National Medal of Arts. He was nominated for the first person to win the Grammy for lifetime achievement, and his short film This Is Not A Film was the first documentary film nominated for an Oscar. Parks passed away on June 8, 1972.

5. Steve Jobs

Let me tell you about my hero. He is an American business leader who gave the world the Apple I Mac, iTunes, iPhoto, and the iPod. He started Apple with $300 in funding, went through multiple relocations, endured a terrible divorce, a hostile takeover, a two-year battle with cancer, an expensive divorce from his wife, and a breakdown that led him to have the only alcohol-related rehab stay in history. However, he still managed to stay positive and keep working.

However, the greatest thing about Steve Jobs is his beliefs. He believed in the American dream, love and music. He also believed in people. In his words, “He believed that if he just kept going in the face of failure, eventually he’d reach his goal. And he was right.

6. Oprah Winfrey

I was so amazed by Oprah’s ability to share her story. Not only is she a best selling author, a television and film producer, and a highly regarded philanthropist, but she also has a great sense of humor. Oprah, who is 65 years old, credits her success to laughter.

“I'm proof that age is nothing but a number.” And that’s just what she does. She inspires people. Whether it be by simply talking or sharing a self-deprecating joke, she has touched the lives of millions. She inspires me by teaching us that it doesn’t matter how old we are, the only important thing is how old we become.

7. Aman Dhattarwal

Aman Dhattarwal is an Indian guy who became a self-made millionaire at the age of 22. He started his journey by making studios and eventually went into various fields. He soon turned into a freelancer, investor in stock and real estate.

The amazing part, he is now financially free. Has 8 plots of his own, and still sleeps under his desk. Also, he drives a second hand swift despite having a lot of money. If you want to know all the reasons behind, check out this "Aman Dhattarwal Biography" and you'll feel inspired too.

Conclusion
